Indian Mangoes

Filed under: India — vishwas @ 9:03 am

Alphaso Mangoes Since the day I arrived in this country (1979) I have yearned for Ratnagiri Haapoos (Alphanso) mangos. That’s why I was so happy to hear that Bush wants Americans to enjoy Indian mangoes now. New York Times appreciates them too.

  1. Indian Mangoes are probably wonderful and can’t wait to try one. But the fact that Bush wants us to enjoy them gives me cause for concern.

  2. Can’t wait to have an Alphanso mango at lunch with you!

I agree with Pete. When Bush wants me to enjoy something, I want to run in the opposite direction.

  3. Alphanso Mango is called King of Fruits in India. It is very special and makes one eager to have one more and one more, all the time till heart’s content.

I would like to invite you all for the feast when I get a shipment of Mangoes from India.

  4. i on similar grounds. Nothing happend after that so I presume there mu be some truth in it.

he point is how best can the American tummy systems maintain equilibrium with the INdian E-coli. We seem to have managed well, somehow.

As you know, I am still fussy about eating on the roadside vendors in India. Mukund, who has to have his daily quota of Bhel panbi puri etc scoffs at me for this.

    Best regards,

    Raju HIrve.

  5. Well, someone once told me a fruit was safe because it is “hermetically sealed”; [It was Hirve, actaully who said this, but it was about another fruit ]I don’t think you get E Coli in a mango… But an Hapoos (Alphonso) will be worth the risk :-)

  6. Interesting… looks as if I have a year to perfect some recipes with mangoes. Then I can buy the imported ones to use. We’ll set two more place settings!
P.S. Read the other blog about Walmart…just added it to our Netflix queue. Thanx.

  7. Re: NY Times mangoes article
The customs agents were probably cutting up the fruit with confiscated knives!

  9. I cannot wait to try those mangoes. Then I can compare to see if they are as good as the Kenyan Apple Mangoes.

  10. … and where, in the DC metro area, would I find Ratnagiri Haapoos (Alphanso) mangos? Frequent trips to Maharashtra are way over my travel budget.
